To enable continuous development in everyday life, Sandvik Rock Processing Solutions has introduced Yomento as support for its leaders. We have asked Gunilla Sjödin, Learning & Development Director, to tell us more about the initiative.

We have asked Gunilla Sjödin, Learning & Development Director, to tell us more about the initiative.

What was the challenge that you wanted to solve?

For us, it is incredibly important to work on both engagement and leadership, and we know there is a clear connection between the two. To succeed, we must work on leadership on a daily basis, and there hasn't been support for that so far. 

What we want to achieve now is to trigger the behaviors that are extra important for leadership within Sandvik so that employees experience even better leadership while leaders practice their leadership.

Why did you choose Yomento?

We believe it's important to practice daily, and not just attend training for one or two days, and in the daily work, Yomento can really help us. Leaders receive reminders about leadership in their everyday work and it becomes clear both what the leader should do and how the leader can accomplish it. We strongly believe in "nudging" a behavior and returning to it time and time again if we want to change or improve our behaviors.

It doesn't take much time, and the leader can choose which behaviors they want to work on themselves. At the same time, we can also recommend that leaders practice the behaviors that we at the organizational level would like to see more of.

How does it relate to Sandvik's leadership framework?

We have a number of leadership behaviors within Sandvik that we want all leaders and managers in the organization to lead from. We have linked these to Yomento so that we can follow and measure that these behaviors are also developing.

What can you say about the first few months?

It has been a fantastic start! The managers were really eager to try something new.

As always, it doesn't go equally fantastic for everyone. However, we choose to focus on those who want to develop their leadership and think this is an exciting, fun, and effective way to do it.
