Volvo Cars offers digital support for leadership development to everyone.
With five thousand leaders spread all over the world, Volvo Cars Global Academy faced a great challenge in reaching out to all of them with their offering. After a successful pilot together with Yomento, the decision was made to give all leaders access to Yomento to develop their leadership in the way they want. Urban Andenius at Global Academy talks about the initiative.
A challenge to reach all leaders within the global organization
"We wanted to give the leaders a powerful tool to work with their own leadership, and we wanted to include all leaders within our global organization. With over 5000 leaders spread globally, it is impossible to do it in an organized way because it requires so much resources," says Urban Andenius, from Volvo Cars Global Academy.
"One of our core competencies is self-development, and a great deal of responsibility lies within that. With Yomento, we wanted to give them a tool that supports development and that they can use when and in the way that suits them."
Closing the gap between knowledge and actual practice
Before Yomento was introduced as a digital support for leadership development, e-learnings were available to all leaders within Volvo Cars. However, these were hardly ever used, according to Urban. A "Leadership Library" with articles, videos, and MOOCs is also available and is well used.
"But these are just theories and do not provide practical support for daily leadership. They create knowledge and understanding, but nothing more. With Yomento, we want to close the gap between knowledge and the actual practice of leadership."
A pilot supported continuation
In the spring of 2020, a pilot was conducted within Volvo Cars, and with the results from the pilot, Urban and colleagues managed to convince the organization that this was something worth investing in.
“The results were absolutely fantastic! Simply put, over 90% thought they benefited from it, that they became better leaders, and that they would like to recommend the tool to other leaders.”

Feedback from the leaders?
The positive feedback we hear is that it's easy to use, the content is relevant, and it's appreciated that it's based on short but frequent efforts from the leader in everyday life. Overall, there are very positive responses and it's a investment that is appreciated in the organization.
We have also noticed that the different leadership roles in our agile organization do not completely match those reflected in the app; something we have identified as an area for improvement since one ambition is for people managers, product owners, and scrum masters, for example, to feel completely at home in the app.
